The ultra popular book, the Five Love Languages by Gary Chapman, outlines the different ways people give and seek affection. This kind of thinking can be applied to business operation as well.

In The Discipline of Market Leaders, by Michael Treacy and Fred Wiersema, applies the principles of the love languages to discern how businesses can understand what their customers are seeking.

In his article for Inc., Jay Steinfeld outlines the three business love languages:

“1. Customer intimacy–excelling at connecting to very specific customer service and experience needs (think Zappos)

2. Product leadership–masters of creating top of the line products and services in their category (think Apple)

3. Operational excellence–delivering quality products at a great value in an efficient manner (think Walmart)”
